Project Description

Walking & Hiking in Donegal

On Donegal’s Inishowen Peninsula you’ll get a windswept introduction to the most northern point of the Wild Atlantic Way. It’s a gentle coastline, but made so by the wind – depending on when you go, you may just have to enjoy the views sitting down. But there are no shortage of walks in this part of the country (Guided and Unguided). Below are a few well known ones:

Urris Lakes Loop. An easily accessible walk which, whilst relatively short, very quickly takes the walker into a remote and rugged landscape. The views are superb and the two small lakes provide a worthwhile reason to make the climb from the beach.

Butlers Glen Loop is a walk for fit experienced walkers only. Starting at the spectacularly located car park on the north side of the Gap of Mamore, this route takes the walker into the heart of Inishowen’s finest hills.

Lenan Loop Walk is a short walk and mostly follows bog road along the coastline with fine views over Lenan Bay.
